Joel and Linda

Well you can’t start off November with out some activities involving Holloween. Linda dressed up for the visiting kids and we had a good time. Murphy had to get into the sceam of things so we had to have a picture of him and Linda.

holl-1.jpg holl-3.jpg holl-2.jpg

We are getting into fall and have put away all of the deck furniture and worked out in the yard. The camper is winterized and buttoned up for the winter.

We are slowly getting ready for our trip to Arkansas for Chris and Shelley’s wedding. I am going to be best man and that is great for me and also Chris and Shelley. Linda is busy working on her dress alterations and flower arrangements for the wedding. We hope we can get everything into the Silverado and get it safely to Arkansas. I have planned the reoute we are going to take and it looks like 1825 miles that will take 2 days to drive. We are going to drive 10 hours a day and share driving. We will have the laptop showing us the way during the drive so we wont get lost.

Joellen told Linda she got some new pictures from one of Sara’s cross country meets. Another parent took these and put them on a picture sharing site. They’re good ones. She’s known for being all smiles right before she crosses the finish line. They just finished up their season and she finished with her best time ever 21:11 for about 3 miles. She’s ready for next season.

Joel and Linda

Well to finish off the summer we had a chance to get together with old friends of Lindas, Grover and Ann, whom she has not seen in 35 years. We met in Lac Du Flambau at the casino for a nice round table and some gambling. Linda had a chance to review pictures Ann had and we exchanged some of ours also. Grover and I had time to get to know one another since we had never met before. Linda didn’t realize all this time had passed and we are hoping to visit with Ann and Grover at their home in West Bend some time.

This month we have to winterize the camper and start to clean up the garage and ready it for winter. We have a love seat and chair with an end table we want to take to the garage so that we have more comfortable seating and maybe the furniture might we useful up in the loft soem day but this addition for now will make things more living room like downstairs.

Murphy is doing fine and he has enjoyed visiting his family when we have had to take some time away from home. It is good for him to be with his old family as it kinda teaches him some humility being surrounded by 12 other Yorkies. Don and Grace, the breeders, allow Murphy to stay with them when we can’t take him with us when we are away from home.

Bob and Joellen

Gordy and I have been working hard on finishing the wood work on the loft above the garage and there is about 85% of it done. Hopefully we will be able to finish it next summer or spring and then there will be time to lay some area carpets and set up some kinda living space there. There is about 44 more boards to put up and then the trim on the ends by the windows. I have to finish the wiring for the electric 220 volt heater and then there will be a source of heat when needed in the loft.

Joel and Linda

Well the month started off with a bang with the anouncement that Lindas son Chris and his girl friend Shelly are planning to get married on December 20th in Arkansas. Well we had to go into overdrive and figure out how we are going to get there at that time. So far we have it set to go and after looking at the air fares and driving we decided to take a week and drive down in the Silverado. We have a neighbor to look after the cat and the breader is going to take Murphy. He will be with his family of dogs and that will make him happy or maybe not! After reviewing Shelley and Chris’s web page and in discussions with Shelley, Linda and I drove to Duluth and she get a real nice dress for the wedding.

dress.jpg

I am going to get measured for a Tux but that wont be for a while. What are we now some 101 days away from the event? I am going to be lucky enough to be in the wedding and looking forward to doing that so I should get into shape but I am afraid there isn’t much time to loose 35 pounds! Guess I will have to do as is…. For more information about the wedding check the link at the bottom of the page.

Bob and Joellen

It is getting cooler in the morning now and I have to run the furnace this morning and I am not looking forward to fall but maybe that wont be to bad. We plan to keep the camper running this season till the end of September when Joellen and and Bob hopefully make it up one more time this season. Gordy, my friend from Antigo, has been helping me put in the wall boards in the kids loft and that is going well. We plan to make one more pass at the room before the end of camping but we may not finish the room this season. We have 1500 board feet of pine boards to put up and have 45% of it done so far.

loft-1.jpg loft-2.jpg loft-3.jpg

Well the kids are off to school and Dave is in his first year of college. Sara is a sophomore in high school and is in cross country and band. Both of the kids are real busy with all their activities and running for the Gold.

Joel and Linda

Well this month started off with a whirl-win trip across the UP of Michigan. We Started out going to a ham radio swapmeet then to a number of casinos in numerous cities on our trip. We spent 2 days of the 4 we were gone on Mackinac Island with a nice boat trip to the island then 2 horse drawn carriage rides. We shopped in the stores and had lunch in a real nice resturant. It was a long 4 days and we put over 800 miles on the SUV. Then when we got home we both celebrated our birthdays on the 6th by taking some time off.

Well this last month Dave celebrated his 18th birthday and to polish it off the family went to the Miller Park for a Brewers game. I am sure Dave had a good time as you can see below.

Joel and Linda

Well this month has been real busy and we are looking forward to Linda getting some time off in August so we can take some trips. We would like to take a tour of the UP and see some of our new state and just get away. I have been taking some time to review my activities and put some time into areas that need some attention. We are going to have some company visiting us with their camper and we plan to spend some time around the fire pit with some better weather. Frank and Sara and the grand kids were here the end of June and we had a good time during their visit and spent time here at home and at the beach. Not sure how the kids trip went on their return home to PA but I hope to find that out.

I have opened up a new site www.FaceBook.com and posted some pistures of the old and new years and also a catagory with some pictures of the 5th wheel. Chris and Shelly got me into this site and it has been neat to see what they are doing with their house and other things. Sara has a site there also.

Picked up a new cell phone called the Motorola “Q” but a little disapointed in it. It is great for texting, which I enjoy, but it has a major limitation for sending movies and pictures. The manual sucks but I am figuring out how it works slowly and making use of it’s features. I see Motorola has a new replacement “Q” but I would not recommend it unless you add the email feature that it has from your cell provider.  Well enough of that.

Joel and Linda

Well we went to Racine for Daves graduation and everyone was there to celebrate. It was a long drive from Ironwood in some rather marginal weather. Places to stay was limited and the Days Inn in Racine left a lot to be desired. I have a chance to visit with some friends, Bob and Jan, that got their Amateur Radio General up grades and others while Linda, Joellen, Leayn and Sally went to the bead show in Milwaukee for the day Saturday.

Bob and Joellen

Dave put in a little time at the day care he’ll be working at this summer as Clifford. They held a carnival/open house at their new center. Dave stood at the entrance and waved. He got lots of “honks” and even a few people stopped to take his picture…me included. This is one for the baby book.

Frank and Sara

Here is Jamie’s 8th grade graduation photo.  It’s a little Goth looking with the dark hair and dress and even she wasn’t happy with it…then again she is happy with so little its hard to tell what’s the photo and what’s the teenager thing. Next stop high school.

Murphy

Well we have a real nice image for Murphy that we thought would be nice to post so here he is for June. He is now 5 months old and still chasing the cat around the house. They are getting closer and it will take some time yet for the two of them to at least be able to be with one another in the same room at the same time.

Joel and Linda

Linda is now off work and we are looking forward to getting the camper out on the kids property near Saxon. We have a lot to do out there this year and hope we get some good weather to get all this done. We have 150 feet of underground cable to bury for the power to the camper and we are planing to use the camper and its water system to allow us to wash up and do dishes. I still want to build Joellen the outdoor kitchenette and hopefully we can get that done. We have enough water barrels and containers to keep the 30 gallon water tank in the camper full.  We have the pump in the camper to provide pressurized water and not to mention the hot water heater to provide hot water. We have selected the spot for the camper to park and it will be in a very nice location for use there and easy to pull out when we want to take trips at any time.

camper-lot1.jpg  camper-lot2.jpg

With Linda off work she is trying to catch up on things around the house and finish the projects she started like painting and other things.  I have some things that I want to get done like clean out the garage and figure out if I am going to replace the garage door with a utility door and window.

Well we had our weekend in Duluth Minn. and stayed at Fitgers, the 5 star rated, Hotel for an over night. We went up the night before and stayed at a motel so I could attend a Ham Radio swapfest the 3rd. Well the weather was real bad Friday of that weekend but by Saturday morning the rain had stopped and it turned out to be a nice day. We checked into Fitgers on Saturday and it sure was a 5 Star Hotel. The room (400) had a nice king siz bed, balcony and with two TV’s, kitchenette and whirlpool. We had a nice time in town and Linda had fun at the Casino and shopping. Had a nice walk on the “Lake Walk” and the morning was just wonderful on Sunday. We were joined by Jack and Carol , our friends from Wisconsin, and went out to dinner with them. Here are a few shots of our vacation in Duluth. Now you have to understand that Fitgers is a brewery converted into the Hotel. It was a total clock reset for the both of us.

Murphy

Murphy is coming along fine and getting bigger. We have had him a month now and he is 4 months old. Below are his before and after pictures and he is a real busy puppy. We have had him out in the back yard and he enjoys running around the yard and chasing the cat. He got his hair cut and also a visit to the Vet for three shots. We have to finish puppy proofing the rest of the house as he is able to now navigate the stairs and can make it upstairs now. Hopefully we can get him used to riding in the trucks and that has been a little touch and go but getting better.

Bob and Joellen

On Saturday, May 3rd Sara participated in the State Solo and Ensemble Music Competition at UW-Parkside. She played an alto solo piece, alto solo in a sax septet, tenor sax in the jazz ensemble piece and an alto clarinet in clarinet choir. She received gold medals for three events but got a silver in the jazz ensemble. Still a great showing. In May she’ll also be auditioning for the UW-Milwaukee Youth Jazz Ensemble.

Dave is getting ready for graduation. Only a few short weeks left. His last day will be June 5th. The graduation ceremony will be at Horlick High School on Sunday, June 8th. Dave is looking forward to all the family coming into town for the party afterwards. Right after graduation he’ll start working at the day care where he worked during spring break. He says he really enjoyed working there.Dave also attended his first freshman orientation out at UW-Parkside. He’s all registered for classes and will begin in the fall right after Labor Day. He hasn’t picked his major yet but he plans on getting his teacher certification to work with early elementary students.Bob has been busy playing his drums and trying to put together a casual band. Joellen is preparing for the big graduation weekend and the bead show in Milwaukee. It ought to be a very busy weekend.

Frank and Sara

Nothing too much astray from the usual ridiculousness around here. Sara took a girls’ trip to the Poconos with our friend Michelle. Michelle drove from her home near Boston, where we usually take a trip around the forth of July [they have an awesome pool]. Sara and Michelle both work for HP in unusual HP locations, and her husband Tommy is another NFL nut so we kind of clicked right away. My apologies on the Superbowl there Tommy . . . I digress. Anyway, so Sara showed Michelle Bushkill Falls and all of our usual haunts in the mountains. Sara was up there from Thursday until Sunday afternoon. So, I got to thinking, we already paid for the whole week, and I work for myself. So, after talking to my biggest clients who all said, “Are you crazy? Go!” I went. So long story short, we each got some me time in the mountains. We’d definitely like to have you visit us there some time.

Besides that, the only other big event was the annual Springer picnic last weekend. So many Springers. They were everywhere. Sara was kidding me that most people attend in order to interact with other members of the rescue group who come from all over the mid-Atlantic states, and that I go in order to interact with the dogs. We actually got Jamie to come along too.

Chris and Shelly

Chris got to take some interesting pictures of a train wreck in Arkansas, as a reporter for the college, and he was urged to contact the news media for a circulation of his photos. He contacted a couple of news agencies and they accepted and published them.

Joel and Linda

Well this has been a busy time for us as Linda is winding down at work and we have a new addition to the house hold with a new puppy. He is a real dickens and for 3 months old he sure is a busy dog. He is a Yorki Terrier and sure loves to chase the cat around and get into things.

Frank and Sara

Well Sara had her 41’s birthday and Frank and Sara went out and partied for the day in Philly at the market down town.

frank-and-sara-1.jpg     sara-1.jpg

Over Easter the Verdi family got together and had a great time. Dusty was able to come up from Texas and spend some time in Philly. Jamie is going to High School and she had a class picture taken and she posed for a picture in her new school in Philly.

jamie-8th-grade-1.jpg jamie-at-high-school.jpg dusty-spring-break.jpg

Bob and Joellen

Here’s a picture of our “temporary” dog. We dog sat for cousin Lisa’s pooch over spring break. Abbey is a cute little dachshund. She followed Sara everywhere. She can go upstairs but not down. She’d run upstairs looking for Sara and when she realized she wasn’t there she would sit at the top of the stairs and howl. It was a lot of fun to watch her ears flop when she ran. Those little legs can really move.

abbey.jpg

Dave spent spring break working in a daycare. He says he really enjoyed the experience and is looking forward to going back to work this summer. It took the kids a couple of days to figure out he was “Mr. David”. It’s not often kids get a male teacher in preschool. Everyday Dave had some great stories to share about his day with the kids. They ranged in age from 4 to 11. After the first couple of days the parents of the kids where commenting on how much fun the kids were having with Mr. David. He certainly played his share of Red Light Green Light and Candy Land.

Joel and Linda

wal-mart-check.jpg

Well with the picture above you can see I did work at Wal-Mart. Well it was really for an orintation meeting that we had to go to before we went to do the tests (see Feb blog) that really made no sense to me. The other job I tried for didn’t make it either so maybe I am going to take the year off now and enjoy it with Linda when she gets off.

We are kinda sorta looking for another dog but not sure if we want a Yorki or another Cocker. We miss the Luckster and can’t ever replace her but maybe a barking dog around the house will put me back in a better mood. Linda would like a Yorki and well if we find one that is fine. We both know it will limit us to our travels without the trailer but well we could find a place that a new dog could stay at when we wanted a day away from both critters and stay at a hotel someplace, or  a casino! We are planning a trip to Duluth for an overnight at Fitgers and Jack and Carol from Clam Lake are going to join us there.

I have the winter blues and really looking forward to getting outside and doing something. I have the garage door to paint and an antenna to put up and one to take down and that will take some warmer weather and lots of snow to melt.  There is a swapfest coming up in early May that we are looking forward to and then we can spend some time in Duluth for an over night.

We have some old friends Bob and Jan, that we have not seen in 35 years, coming up the end of the month for a visit. Maybe we can go out and see some of the local area stuff and spend time here at the house talk radio with Bob while the ladies do their thing like get into beading and Jans work with testing personal products. I’d like to know more about that and maybe I can do stuff like that to make a few extea bucks! Hmmm one never knows right?

Nothing yet!

Well, we’re at it again! This gentleman’s name is Ranger and he was dropped off at the SPCA [way out in the middle of nowhere PA!]. I took the day off yesterday and drove up to bail him out. This one is special. He’s adorable and we’re already having a blast. Jamie already wants to keep him . . . she might not be the only one, but we agreed to a two dog limit some time ago. Anyway, he’s pretty small for an English Springer, but he is DEFINITELY an English Springer from head to stubby tail. Typical two year old, full of energy – takes the stairway in about two seconds – and fun loving . . . in other words he fits in nicely.

Joel and Linda

Well Linda and I have not been doing anything exciting lately. Linda has been working long hours at the ski hill and I have been looking for a part time or full time job. I am no longer working at Alltel and did manage to secure a position with the new Wal-Mart here in Ironwood but after finding out that there was a 26 module, about and hour each, test I decided that it was not really worth the effort. The subject matter did not pertain to the postion I was hierd for and that was in the “Connection Center”. I would have thought that the testing was to learn how to sell electronics, cell phones and cameras not how to run a fork lift and clean the floors. Well now I am still looking and have filled out an application for a auto parts delivery guy and counter associate in between. Will see if that happens.

Bob and Joellen

Dave is getting ready for the Constitution Bowl. It’s a competition for high school students. They get to answer a lot of questions about our government. It’s much like a geography bee. Dave has also picked up a part-time job at a local daycare center. He’ll start helping out during spring break when all the kids are off of school. Sara had a band concert at the Milwaukee Bucks game and the kids had received tickets so that they could see the game and take pictures.

Frank and Sara

Well Frank found some interesting pictures of a couple of Albino Moose that had wondered onto a Hyway here in the UP. I guess it is time to pack up the digital camera and put it in the truck just in case we manage to run across these two again.

albino-moose-1.jpgalbino-moose-2.jpg

Sara and I hung out with the Supersuckers last week. They passed through Philly on tour. You’ll remember them from the concert you were at. It was at the Valley Green Inn in October 2006. Jamie has finally managed to get the hairdo that she has been after for months. They tell me that the kids call it ‘the skunk”, and they do so affectionately. Far as I can tell, it is platinum blonde on top, and black on the bottom. Whatever makes you happy. Sara’s working, working, working. I’m getting ready to head over to the school and fine tune the server some more. Probably nothing other then the usual abnormal around here until we swap out the kids for Spring Break the middle of next month. I might head up to the Poconos for my yearly alone time.
